ALERT: The IRS's "Dirty Dozen"
This Monday the U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent out a release informing people that the IRS has officially launched this year’s annual campaign of the most prevalent tax scams. They refer to these scams as the “Dirty Dozen.”
The release also shared that as a part of their campaign, the IRS will be honing in on one specific scam each weekday. They will be providing information and awareness on the scam, as well as sharing some preventative techniques. By staying informed on this information, it will empower taxpayers, businesses and tax professionals to protect themselves against scams.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is encouraging all people- taxpayers, businesses and tax professionals to be aware of this Dirty Dozen list. The IRS’s alert on this Dirty Dozen can be found here. They are also encouraging people to continually check the IRS website to stayed informed on each specific scam being discussed, as well as reading tips on how to avoid Social Engineering and Phishing Attacks.
